“This interview has been translated from its original language to English for your convenience“.
Hello, I’m Waldo Facco, an actor, casting coach, and casting director.
Why “Mateo”
‘Mateo’ attracted me for several reasons. First, I was eager to work with Fernando Perezgil, a highly professional and serious director. Additionally, the story itself, the way it is narrated, and of course, the fact that the character was a zombie, all drew me to the project.

Portraying Mateo
Mateo is a character who lives in solitude, burdened by nostalgia for the past and the realization that nothing will ever be as he once knew it.
Preparing for the Role
To prepare for the role of Mateo, I studied films and read a book provided by the director, “The Zombie Survival Guide,” which I unfortunately lost later. I also trained physically and mentally, always focusing on understanding what was happening in the character’s mind.
Transformation Process
Creating Mateo was a lengthy process. We spent an entire night with the makeup and FX team, but the result was worth it. Juan Manuel Méndez and his team were always attentive and careful, making the process very pleasant overall.

Acting Under Makeup
The makeup process took over 6 hours, which allowed me to deeply internalize the character. The heavy prosthetics made me somewhat immobile, which helped me discover different rhythms in the character’s performance.
On-Set Challenges
The biggest challenge was definitely the low temperatures. However, this became a stimulus that added to the character’s situation.
Difficult Scenes
The most difficult scene was where I had to eat a piece of raw meat. I am very sensitive to certain smells and textures and almost vomited several times, haha.

Getting Involved with “Mateo”
Working with Fernando and his team was like working with friends or family. Everyone was dedicated to achieving the same goal with love, passion, respect, and empathy.
