“This interview has been translated from its original language to English for your convenience“.
I’m Jorge Armando Martínez, a producer and audiovisual director, a graduate from the “CECC” film and television school in Mexico City. I have worked on feature films, short films, commercials, music videos, TV series, and virtually any audiovisual product. Throughout these projects, I have grown and developed professionally.
Although my career has mainly focused on producing, I always seek to involve myself creatively in projects, especially in the direction department, where I have also worked as an Assistant Director. This allows me to stay updated with the trends in filmmaking and the needs of various audiovisual media.
The Allure of “Un tal Borges”
What attracted me to ‘Un tal Borges’ was the mysticism that the story takes us through, making us feel the same as the characters from the script itself. The story blends the fiction of cinema with literary narrative, referencing Borges and connecting us with two worlds.

Overcoming Production Challenges
The biggest challenge during production was filming in Veracruz, in the Chachalacas dunes. We attended with a small crew and worked under intense heat. That day, everyone had to contribute to the various production departments. I believe we achieved visually stunning results.
Memorable Moments
A memorable aspect of the production was transforming the location to fit the spaces required by the story. I like to highlight how Fernando masterfully utilized the location to convey everything he wanted. We had to adapt many spaces in a very small area. This supports an idea I always have: “the most important thing is the story you want to tell.” Resources are relative; creativity is paramount when solving problems.

Assembling the Right Team
From a producer’s perspective, I sought team members who could adapt to the project’s possibilities and, together, find the best way to tell the story.
Choosing the Perfect Locations
‘Un tal Borges’ was filmed in Mexico City and Chachalacas, Veracruz. We chose Veracruz for the vastness of its dunes, and it was a great decision. Despite filming with a small crew for various reasons, the quality was not compromised. In Mexico City, we chose a house that could easily be adapted into an apartment in the southern part of the city. This location gave us the necessary space to work, light, and achieve the photography we envisioned.
Collaborative Efforts
I believe the entire team was very well-coordinated to achieve the three-day work plan. Fernando’s vision was fully realized because he was attentive to all areas during the months of pre-production. This ensured that during filming, we were all in sync. A great job was done with the actors, with several readings to understand the story’s tone in detail.

Future Endeavors
I have several short films lined up for production. However, we are waiting to see the reception of ‘Un tal Borges’ before deciding which project will get the green light next.
Lessons Learned
I believe that pre-production is the most crucial stage for achieving a good on-screen result. Doing a thorough job in directing and producing is fundamental during this phase.
